Is a 2010 Marin Mount Vision 5.6 a good buy for a beginner single trail rider?

I am looking to upgrade from my Scwinn Ranger bike from Target that is falling apart after a year of road and light trail riding. I started getting into single trails and my bike can't cut it anymore. I am choosing between a 2011 Marin Hawk Hill $830 (incl tax) from REI or a 2011 Marin Mount Vision 5.6 from an online store for $1050 (no tax, incl shipping). I was leaning towards the Mt vision because it is dual suspension and the orig. price was $2,100. Do you think the Mount Vision is a good buy? It is slightly above my price range but would buy it if its worth it. I'm new to mtb so I can't evaluate it myself. Thanks for your help.
