Question about Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest?

Why would Oscar Wilde make the end of The Importance of Being Earnest so cheesy and contrived when he was capable of writing a beautiful ending? I'm just wondering, because I read the play for school, but I'm not sure why he'd do this.
