Should i get a fixed gear bike?

This summer im looking forward to getting a bike i've rode BMX and MTB but im kind of into fixie bike's my neighborhood has some curbs and things you need to jump is it possible to go over a curb with a fixie without damaging the bike? I need to know if it would ok to hop on a curb or to go off a curb. Thanks
